What Stresses You Out the Most During the Short-Term Hiring Season? Check out our September Survey Results

By Drew Fortin

When the moon turned orange earlier this month many of you were already experiencing your own supernatural-type phenomenon – increased stress.  After all, this is the time of year when so many of you are ramping up for the holiday season – trying to find, hire and train the right candidates to fill so many of the positions you’ll need to run your business during the holiday rush.

In our September survey, we asked what causes you the most stress about the short-term hiring season. Here’s what you told us:

  • 50% said finding the right candidates
  • 19% said getting new hires up-to-speed quickly
  • 15% said the time spent screening candidates
  • 9% said defining the role/position
  • 7% said getting the top candidate to accept your offer

While there’s no denying the increased workload required to identify and hire so many short-term employees, having a plan can help you minimize stress. More than half of you are worried about finding the right candidates – since you need employees who thrive in a busy environment, who can get up-to-speed quickly, who are committed through the season and who will be reliable and hard-working.

A quick scan of a resume and an unstructured nterview unfortuantely are not he best predictors of those behaviors, but behavioral assessment tools can help dramatically increase your success.
