Frequent employee engagement questions

What is employee engagement?

Employee engagement represents a person’s overall emotional connection to their organization. Highly engaged employees are energized by their job, their team, and the mission at hand. As a result, they’re able to bring their best selves to work each day.

Why does employee engagement matter?

When employees are engaged, they tend to not only meet expectations, but exceed them. They go the extra mile for colleagues, and exhibit more discretionary effort. Plus, their energy can inspire others to do the same.

By improving employee engagement, your organization can attain greater levels of productivity—and achieve better business outcomes.

How do you measure employee engagement?

The most efficient way to measure employee engagement is to collect regular, candid feedback from your employees. By asking them how they currently feel about their job, their team, and the organization, you can understand overall engagement levels—and take steps to improve.

What is the PI Employee Experience Survey?

The PI Employee Experience (XP) Survey measures engagement across 50 questions. The survey asks employees to provide feedback across four categories—job, manager, people, and organization—plus four questions dedicated to overall sentiment.

By administering the XP Survey, an organization or team can gather honest feedback about the employee experience. Learn where your employees are most (and least) engaged, and get custom actions you can take to improve your culture.

How long does it take to fill out an employee engagement survey?

Engagement surveys tend to vary in length, depending on the format and survey cadence.

Larger-scale surveys may take upward of 15 to 30 minutes to complete, and are administered every three to six months. By contrast, smaller “pulse” surveys may take just five to 10 minutes, but are intended to be administered more frequently—such as monthly, or even weekly.

How do I improve employee engagement?

Improving engagement starts with listening to your employees. By understanding where their biggest frustrations lie, you can align on actions to take as a team to elevate the employee experience. Make sure these actions are clear, relevant, and achievable given your current scope and capabilities.
