Forget breaking the ice — we melted it

You might not know me yet, but join a virtual meeting with me, and I promise you’ll know exactly how to kick it off. And no, it won’t be by asking about the weather in New England.

At PI, we think about behavioral styles all day, every day. We thought, “What if we could give people a peek into each other’s behavioral styles before a meeting even starts?”

So, in typical PI fashion, we created virtual waiting rooms that showcase just that.

Who doesn’t want to start a 1:1 knowing exactly how to make the most of it?

Behavioral insights can be your lifeline in an awkward meeting.

As PI’s Sr. Brand Manager, I’ve seen firsthand how our Reference Profiles (a useful shorthand for behavioral styles) have become a core part of who we are. When we rebranded them and integrated them into the PI experience in 2018, we expanded our mission to make it easy to communicate about behavioral styles at work. They’re not just colorful badges, names, and icons; They’re tools that help us understand each other better, work more effectively, and yes, now they can help start meetings on the right foot…

Think about the last meeting that made you want to quit your job and stroll into the wilderness. Maybe it was with a new employee, or that team member you rarely interact with- or one you interact with too much.

Imagine if you had a heads-up, and could predict their style before you even said hello.

Impossible, right?

Nope, that’s exactly what we’re doing…

Introducing virtual waiting rooms that highlight your PI Reference Profile, giving you a head start on better meetings.

Picture this: You’re about to join a call with me, and you see a message saying, “Connecting with a Persuader.”

Just like that, you know you’re dealing with someone who’s:

  • Outgoing and social – likes to talk it out
  • Likely to keep things casual – prefers a flexible approach
  • Probably as excited about this call as you are – loves new conversations and general variety

Behavioral insights from PI aren’t about putting people in boxes. It’s about giving you a starting point for connection – and a continuous, everyday understanding of how everyone is different. In the world of virtual meetings, that first moment of connection can be crucial.

And Zoom’s new “video waiting room” feature offers a nice opportunity to fill that empty space at the beginning of a call.

Behavioral styles applied to everyday work

Your behavioral style is your superpower, and PI is all about helping you and your leaders unleash it. Whether you’re a bold Maverick or a thoughtful Guardian, you bring something unique to every interaction.

PI Perform Relationship Tab

PI Perform’s Relationship tab helps you quickly understand how you can work better together – before, during, and after your meetings.

These waiting rooms are just one more way we’re encouraging everyone to be proud of what they bring to the table. At PI, we believe that understanding and celebrating our differences leads to stronger teams and better outcomes.

So while a personalized waiting room might seem like a small step, it’s part of a bigger push toward a workplace where everyone can be authentically themselves. And that’s a future we’re excited to build.

Shaping the future of work

As PI continues to develop Talent Optimization tools beyond just hiring assessments, we’re committed to bringing behavioral insights into every stage of the employee lifecycle. When Reference Profiles are applied to meetings, you start to see a compounding effect on culture.

Better Meetings, Better Work, Better World

The next time you’re waiting for a meeting to start, take a moment to appreciate who you’re meeting with, and the differences and preferences they may have.

When we communicate more effectively, we work better together. When we work better together, we create better outcomes.

And when we create better outcomes consistently, we’re not just improving our work lives – we’re making the world a little bit better.

While meetings can have their challenges, they don’t have to be a constant struggle. Welcome to the new world of not-so-bad meetings, powered by behavioral insights. When we understand each other, better meetings are the first step to a better work world.
