How to Create Accounts
In this lesson, we are going to cover accounts. Accounts are companies that we are doing business with, and contacts are the people who are associated with that account — typically employees of that company.Let’s look at the Accounts tab. You can see that there are thousands of accounts. Let’s search for the account Silly Productions Training Center, UOS. This is the salesforce training account environment we have created for you to practice in.
You can see here, that there is quite a bit of detailed information about this account. The top portion tells you the type of account, a phone number, website url, who owns the account, and where they are located.
To the right is the list of Quick Links. Here we can view the Account History, review any cases they have submitted, locate their contracts, notice they have several contacts, and so much more.
There are five different types of accounts available in Salesforce, they are:
This is a prospective client that has not yet subscribed or purchased any services from PI or from our PI Certified Partners.
The majority of the time you will be working on a Client, Certified Partner, or Client Prospect account.
Activity
1. Click ‘Accounts’ tab and then click ‘New’ to create a new account in Salesforce.
2. Select ‘Client’ for the record type
3. Input the ‘Account Name’ — Use a singular noun (i.e. heart, guitar, coffee) + your High School Mascot
- Salesforce is great in that if a similar account exists you will receive a screen notification alerting you if there is an existing account already created.
4. Next to ‘Account Name’, assign a certified partner in the ‘Assigned Certified Partner’ field — Use Silly Productions Training Center, UOS
5. **If the account was a child account you would indicate the Parent Account and mark the account as ‘child’ tow fields below ‘Account Name’. Leave blank for this activity.
6. Select ‘Save’.
