Interview best practices
Defining your hiring and interview processes
Making the right hire is critical to your organization’s success. Increase your odds of placing the right people in the right roles by creating world-class hiring and interview processes.
Hiring
Our Hire implementation guide walks through things to consider as you establish your hiring process. Depending on the role you’re hiring for, you may choose to use a combination of selection methods, which could include PI Assessments, skills assessments, resume screening, and work samples.
Work with your PI Partner to determine things like:
- Where in your process will you send Behavioral and Cognitive Assessments to candidates?
- Which method is best for building your Job Target?
- How can you make the most of the Job Assessment?
- What are the best ways to create and gain alignment on Job Targets?
- Are you going to use the PI-generated email when sending assessments to candidates or would you like to customize it?
- How will you utilize and share the Interview Builder?
Remember, structure and consistency with selection methods help promote objective hiring, but every role is different. Some positions might require a more variable approach, based on cross-functional or evolving responsibilities. It’s normal for hiring teams to adjust the content or structure of an evaluation based on the role’s needs.
Interviewing
Regardless of which methods you choose, you will almost always incorporate a structured interview at some stage. As you determine which tools and features in the software you’ll use when, you’ll also want to make sure your hiring teams are prepared for the interview process.
Work with executive team and your PI Partner to talk through:
- When will you train employees on your interviewing goals and expectations?
- When will you provide interview teams with access to the software?
- What other systems will your hiring team need access to?
- How will you share Candidate Insights packets with the hiring team (view a sample here)?
- Will you be using something like the STAR method?
Once you’ve solidified your hiring and interview processes, you’re ready to put those plans in motion. Let’s review things to consider as part of interview training at your organization.
